Why are there blackouts in sports packages?

Teams are blacked out due to the leagues restrictions on protecting the rights of the regional sports network such as CSN, ROOT Sports, SNY, YES. A game will not be shown on a sports package when that game is already being carried by a regional sports network. If a specific regional sports network is not carried in your viewing area, requests can be made for it's consideration for a future launch.
